An important component of the expertise enhancement offered by
the CASCADe project is the organisation of workshops, both at
the country level for each of the seven target countries of the
project and at the regional level. Country Workshops In each of the target countries, an Introductory Carbon Finance Workshop and an Advanced Carbon Finance Workshop are scheduled. The Introductory Carbon Finance Workshop
targets primarily existing and potential local carbon finance
project developers but financial institutions, Designated National
Authorities and key stakeholders of the agriculture, forest and
bioenergy sectors also participate. The workshop is organised
around a three day-training session where participants discuss
various carbon finance project issues, followed by a two-day session
where project developers are offered individual support for the
preparation of their own projects. The issues covered by the Introductory Carbon Finance Workshop typically include: basics of the CDM and the voluntary carbon market, the carbon finance project cycle with a focus on PIN and PDD development, detailed introduction to relevant approved forestry/agricultural sectoral CDM methodologies, overview of main challenges such as additionality, baseline methodologies, scenarios, and applicability conditions, dealing with leakage and risk of non-permanence, common barriers for small-scale forestry and bio methodologies. The Advanced Carbon Finance Workshop
is organised approximately one year after the Introductory Carbon
Finance Workshop to help local project developers in the advanced
stages of their project development with an intensive, hands-on
training session. Project developers have the opportunity to present
their projects to invited carbon buyers and local financial institutions
and receive comprehensive technical feedback. Dates of national workshops
In order to disseminate beyond the target country borders the expertise generated by the CASCADe programme and facilitate replication and regional cooperation, regional workshops will be organised in the course of 2009 in collaboration with the Comité Permanent Inter-Etats de Lutte contre la Secheresse (CILSS) and the Commission des Forêts d'Afrique Centrale (COMIFAC). |
