RET Screen
Renewable Energy Technology Screen

Developed by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), RET Screen is a pre-feasibility analysis software for renewable energy projects. The software, available free of charge, can be used to evaluate the annual energy production, costs and financial viability of the following renewable energy technologies (RETs):

  • Wind energy
  • Small hydro
  • Photovoltaics
  • Solar air heating
  • Biomass heating
  • Solar water heating
  • Passive solar heating
  • Ground source heat pumps

UNEP is working with NRCan to increase the awareness and enhance the usefulness of RET Screen internationally. As part of this collaboration, UNEP Energy and its Collaborating Centre on Energy and Environment (URC) have worked with NRCan's CANMET Energy Diversification Research Laboratory (CEDRL) to develop a greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) mitigation model for RET Screen. In parallel to this effort, the U.S. National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) worked with NRCan to facilitate the use of NASA's global satellite data with RETScreen.

UNEP and NRCan have also prepared an international training course on RETScreen. Details are available at retscreen.net
