The 2001 Global Video Competition was organized
by UNEP DTIE's OzonAction Programme with support provided by
the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal
Protocol. It was open to adults living in developing countries
that are Party to the Montreal Protocol. Countries organized
national competitions and selected the best entries. Ten regional
finalists were selected from among the national winners. The
films were judged by a jury led by Mr. Ivan Hattingh, Chairman
of the Board of the Television
Trust for the Environment (TVE) and Wildscreen,
a UK-based environmental film festival. The winners were announced
on October 19 2001 during the 13th Meeting of the Parties to
the Montreal Protocol in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The
international community has won several battles in ozone
layer protection, but the war is far from over. News journalists,
independent producers and the general public all have a
responsibility to ensure that the race to protect the ozone
layer does not disappear from the headlines. UNEP's Global
Video Competition is your chance to use your knowledge,
media firepower and creativity to help us bring the ongoing
story of the planet's greatest achievement in international
environmental co-operation home to us all.
