• 35 CO2 Vending machines installed at the US Capitol - 35 new climate friendly Coca-Cola vending machines for the US Capitol buildings have been unveiled. Featuring natural refrigerant CO2 that reduces direct greenhouse gas emissions by 99 %, the machines support the 'Green the Capitol' programme, adding to the green options available to the members and staff of the US House of Representatives. • A giant leap forward towards HCFC phase-out goal - Policies to enable developing countries to freeze, reduce and eventually eliminate their consumption of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), a group of chemicals that not only damage the ozone layer but also significantly contribute to climate change, were agreed this week in Montreal. In developing the HCFC project guidelines that set out the eligibility and criteria for funding to enable countries to comply with the Montreal Protocol's HCFC phase-out timetable, all members of the Multilateral Fund's Executive Committee demonstrated their continuing determination and commitment to finding solutions. Despite the complexity and technical nature of the protracted negotiations that took place over a number of its meetings, the Executive Committee once more proved that governments can come together and work out concrete means to address global environmental issues.   Joint Meeting of the Regional Ozone Networks for Europe & Central Asia and South Asia, Istanbul, Turkey, 26 - 30 April 2010
  Joint ECA-Asia Pacific Network Meeting - PepsiCola is a member of the Natural Refrigerants partnership which is being promoted by UNEP OzonAction. It designed energy efficient bottle coolers through the use of latest technology and energy saving devices, system optimisation, elimination of HFC as foam blowing agent and testing of alternative refrigerants CO2 and HC. In Turkey, PepsiCola built up the necessary infrastructure and the capacity of local suppliers and all new bottle coolers operate on hydrocarbon and are 51% more energy efficient than traditional coolers. PepsiCola intends to introduce HC bottle coolers in other countries including Europe, China and India while pursuing a dual approach considering CO2 coolers in other regions. • Aquastar Applies for US Patent to Safeguard Ground-breaking AC - .Real Paper Displays Inc. has announced a new patent application made by its subsidiary company Aquastar Corporation to protect its innovative technology that allows the usage of water in air conditioners as refrigerant, instead of environmentally dangerous chemicals that are currently in use.
  
  
• EPA Finalizes the 2008 U.S. Greenhouse Gas Inventory - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released the 15th annual U.S. greenhouse gas inventory report, which shows a drop in overall emissions of 2.9 per cent from 2007 to 2008. The downward trend is attributed to a decrease in carbon dioxide emissions associated with fuel and electricity consumption. • Proposal for a vehicle-level test procedure to measure air conditioning fuel use - At the upcoming SAE 2010 World Congress in Detroit, John Rugh of National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will present a paper proposing a vehicle-level test procedure to measure fuel used by mobile air conditioning units. • 500 Educators Pack HVAC Excellence Conference to learn about sustainable technology - Ms Christina Spaulding, Senior Account Manager of DuPont ISCEON Refrigerants, provided an important market update on the status of refrigerants including a regulatory update on the phase out of HCFC-22. • Your Air conditioning system may contribute to skin cancer - Environmentalists from across the Caribbean came to Belize to take part in the Caribbean Ozone Officers Network meeting which took place from 2 - 5 March 2010. The key topic was the implications and requirements of recent decisions of the Montreal Protocol. (The Guardian, 4 March 2010)

• Sweden and UNEP team up to help developing countries phase out of Ozone depleting HCFCs - A partnership agreement signed on 16th Nov 2007 between the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and UNEP officially launched activities to provide assistance to developing countries to help them end their reliance on hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) (Paris/Stockholm, 19 Nov 2007).
