International Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development

Sixth International Meeting
France, February 2010

Nearly 70 participants from all continents came together from 2-3 February 2010 in Chantilly, France to open up the way for the transformation of the Task Force into a new Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism.

The meeting was organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea (MEEDDM), and the French Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Employment, with support from the French Agency for Environment and Energy Management (ADEME), the French Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs (MAEE), and the Government of Norway.

The meeting provided the forum for Task Force members to discuss the transition of the Task Force into a UN Type II Partnership under the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), the selection criteria for project proposals, and the financing mechanisms for its continued operation.

During this meeting, the Task Force members reached consensus that the Task Force continues through the form of a UN Type II Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) Partnership.
