Climate Change and Tourism The 2nd International Conference on Climate Change and Tourism gathered together 450 participants from 22 international organizations, 80 countries, governments, public and private sector stakeholders in tourism and the academic community who reviewed international processes and discussed adaptation and mitigation needs and policy options. The conference examined the linkages between climate factors and tourism operations in their complexity, and draw conclusions and recommendations to all stakeholders involved. The 2nd International Conference on Climate Change and Tourism "urges action by the entire tourism sector to face climate change as one of the greatest challenges to sustainable development, and to the Millennium Development Goals in the 21st Century." The Davos Declaration presented at the closing of the three-day Conference underscores that "the tourism sector must rapidly respond to climate change, within the evolving UN framework if it is to grow in a sustainable manner." The conference was organized by the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO); it was supported by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Swiss Government. |
