Launch of first country specific "Green Passport"
June 2009 - Paraty city

Paraty city in Brazil was chosen to be the first destination to implement communication materials of the internet-based campaign 'Green Passport' on the local level due to its natural and cultural features, and its commitment for sustainable tourism development. The 'Green Passport' aims to raise tourists' awareness of their potential to contribute to sustainable development by making responsible holiday choices.
The Campaign has been launched by UNEP, jointly with the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning and the Brazilian Ministries of Environment and Tourism. The web site, developed in English, French, Greek, Portuguese and soon in Chinese, German, and Spanish, together with additional communication tools (website and leaflet/brochure), is now available for dissemination by new partners to raise awareness in the tourism community.
